Doyle shocked by Spitzer revelations

March 11, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Governor Jim Doyle has commented on the bad news involving his friend Eliot Spitzer. As the career of his fellow Democratic governor threatens to implode, Doyle got a laugh, at a press conference urging Assembly action on the Great Lakes Compact. "In New York, the compact has passed both chambers, and is waiting to be signed by the governor," Doyle said, adding "I'm not sure when that will happen," as assembled legislators laughed and groaned.

Spitzer is in hot water following revelations of his involvement with a high-priced prostitution ring. Doyle told reporters he was shocked. "We were AGs (attorneys general) together, and friends as he was running for governor," Doyle said. "I think everybody who knows him is shocked." Doyle said he has no advice for Spitzer. Reportedly, top aides to the New York governor have said that they expected Spitzer to resign his office.
