Marquette advances to Big East quarterfinals

March 13, 2008 By WRN Contributor

For 35 minutes, last night's Big East Tournament opener between Seton Hall and Marquette was close.  Marquette led 57-54.  Then the Golden Eagles went on a 10-0 run to close out the game and win 67-54 to advance to tonight's Big East quarterfinal against Notre Dame.

Jerel McNeal scored a game-high 21 points to lead Marquette to its 23rd win of the season.

Sophomore Lazar Hayward added 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help Marquette overcome a 34% shooting night, 17% from beyond 3-point range.  Seton Hall wasn't any better, hitting just 33.9% from the field.
