The cyclist rights group ABATE brings a full court press to the Capitol today: eight busloads of members and supporters. A big issue, says the group's Dave Charlebois, a 2006 law allowing tougher penalties and a motorcycle awareness class for drivers who hit bikers. Charlebois says it looks as if those new penalties aren't being used. Charlebois says they'll try to get the message to lawmakers that the law may need amending. Another concern is a federal issue: Charlebois says some injured bikers have been denied insurance benefits, due to loophole in the federal HIPPA law.
