St. Norbert earns trip to Frozen Four

March 16, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Ryan Peterson's goal 8 minutes, 28 seconds into overtime moved the St. Norbert College Green Knights into the NCAA Division III Frozen Four in Lake Placid, New York next week.

The Green Knights prevailed 2-1 in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.

It's the 4th overtime victory of the season for St. Norbert College, a Division III record.

It's the fourth straight win for the Green Knights over the 6th ranked Tommies and it stretched St. Norbert's unbeaten streak to 27 straight games.

Mike Bernardy gave the Knights a 1-0 lead, 7 minutes into the first period, but the Tommies tied it 22 seconds into period number 2 on a Nick Pernula goal.

The Green Knights are in the Frozen Four for the 5th time in the last six years.  They'll face Norwich in the Saturday semifinals.  Norwich has captured national titles in 2000 and 2003.  They beat St. Norbert in the 2003 semifinals.

The Knights are still looking for their first National Championship.

Plattsburgh takes on Elmira in the other semifinal.
