Taking on the drinking culture

March 13, 2008 By WRN Contributor

liquor.jpg Dane County’s Executive has an ambitious goal: to change our drinking culture. Kathleen Falk says attitudes about drinking in Dane County, and the entire state, have led to some unfortunate consequences. Falk says taxpayers pay millions to jail people for offenses related to drinking, plus millions more to assist children whose parents have drinking problems. She hopes to have steps in place in about five months to curb our obsession with alcohol.

Falk, whose own father was an alcoholic, says she doesn’t want to stop drinking alcohol to celebrate, but she does want to end “the celebration of drinking” in our culture.
