Time for trains?

Is there a train trip in your future? Governor Jim Doyle has signed legislation making Wisconsin the tenth state to join the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact. Laura Kliewer, director of the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission , says there's plenty evidence of pent up consumer demand for rail travel, noting the popularity of Amtrak's Chicago-Milwaukee Hiawatha route.

It's not possible to catch a train in Madison or Green Bay. Kliewer says Wisconsin joining the compact could help change that, although a lot depends on federal funding.
