Vargas makes statement on mound for Brewers

March 10, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Claudio Vargas made a big statement towards making the Milwaukee Brewers opening day rotation when he pitched 5-innings of hitless baseball in the Brewers 2-0 win over Seattle in Cactus League play on Sunday.

Vargas walked one and struck out two in his 5-innings of work.  He went 11-9 with a 5.09 ERA in 29 appearances last season.

J.J. Hardy clubbed a two-run double in the third inning to drive in the only two Brewers runs.  –  In Phoenix, Chris Narveson pitched four shutout innings in his first start of the spring to lead the Brewers to a 5-2 win over the Oakland A's.
