Badger State Games moving

April 30, 2008 By WRN Contributor

After 23 years in Madison, a major Wisconsin sporting event is moving to the Fox Cities. Lynn Peters of the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau made the announcement Wednesday morning at the Heart of the Valley YMCA: the Badger State Summer Games will move to the Fox Cities for 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation runs the Badger State Games . Executive Director Ron Vincent says the Fox Cities are a good fit. "It's going to be a great move for us," said Vincent. "I'm looking for our athlete numbers to grow." The event is expected to bring 10 thousand athletes to the area over the last two weeks in June. They'll participate in over 30 sporting events at 23 different venues. Vincent said the Badger State Games have a two million dollar economic impact, and that they'll look to stay in the Fox Cities for some time.
