Board paves the way for no ATV trails

April 24, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The WI Natural Resources Board has voted against developing ATV trails on the Northern Highland Legion State Forest. Department of Natural Resources staff had previously recommended against trails on the state's largest forest property, covering parts of Oneida, Vilas and Iron counties.

Northern Highland American Legion Forest Superintendent Steve Peterson said the recommendation is not simply a statement against ATV's. Peterson says the trail project would've been a significant drain on the ATV account and would've prevented any other related development in the state.

Peterson says while some may be unhappy with the results, officials strove very hard to make a well informed decision and did listen to what people had to say.
