Brewers losing continues in St. Louis

April 17, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Carlos Villanueva St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Rick Ankiel worked Brewers starter Carlos Villanueva for 17 pitches during his first inning at bat and eventually coaxed a walk.  That at bat set the tone for Villanueva (pictured), who worked just 4 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in the Cardinals 5-4 win at Busch Stadium.

The Brewers trailed 5-2 heading to the 9th and finally managed to make some noise when J.J. Hardy and pinch hitter Craig Counsell collected back to back rbi doubles, but the rally fell just short.

Adam Wainwright held the Brewers in check.  In 7 2/3 innings, Wainwright allowed just 5 hits and 1 earned run.  Wainwright even helped his own cause with a home run.

The Brewers will try to salvage the final game of the series today.  First pitch time is 12:15 for the 3rd and final game of the series.  Manny Parra (1-1) pitches for the Brewers.  Kyle Lohse (2-0) goes for the Cardinals.
