Dead drunk

April 11, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A highly intoxicated man ended up dead, and now a Waupon bar and some drinking buddies could be in trouble. Jesse Drews had a blood alcohol content of .38 percent after a night out celebrating his 21st birthday. Waupun police are probing the death. Police Chief Dale Heringa says once final results are in from toxicology tests, Heringa says they'll determine whether to seek criminal charges. Bartenders at the bar, "Slammers," could be held accountable for overserving, but Drews' friends could also be in some trouble, even if they were also drunk. "Being drunk," Heringa says, "is not a defense."
