Gard House bid

April 24, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A former state legislative leader who lost his bid to enter Congress two years ago will make another attempt to win the House seat representing northeastern Wisconsin.

Republican John Gard will make an announcement on the campaign for the 8th Congressional District with news conferences in Green Bay and Appleton on Sunday. Gard narrowly lost in 2006 to Appleton Democrat Steve Kagen . The seat was vacated by four term Republican Mark Green, who unsuccessfully ran for governor that year.

Gard represented the 89th state Assembly District from 1987 to 2006, and served as Assembly Speaker from 2003 until leaving office. He is married to Kate Zeuske, a former state legislator, state Treasurer, and state Revenue Secretary appointed by former governor Tommy Thompson.
