By an overwhelming majority, voters statewide on Tuesday approved a state Constitutional Amendment banning the Governor's so-called “Frankenstein Veto” power.
State Representative Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls), a primary supporter of the measure, applauded the strong support it received from voters. Harsdorf says the vote will help “bring about budget reform…by banning the Frankenstein Veto.”
The partial veto authority has drawn strong criticism during Governor Doyle's term in office, after he used the power to raid the state transportation fund and increase levy limits.
Harsdorf says the reform will help ensure greater accountability in the budget process.
