Hope, help for homeowners

April 18, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Hard pressed homeowners can get some hope at an event in Milwaukee on Monday. If you're worried about facing foreclosure, but aren't sure where to turn, the Foreclosure Prevention Clinic could be for you. Kate Colarulli with the nonprofit NeighborWorks Center says it will give homeowners a chance to connect face to face with representatives of major mortgage lenders. Colarulli says there will be reps from at least seven different loan servicing companies, along with professional housing counselors who can provide advice. She says homeowners will walk out feeling more confident.

The clinic takes place Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hilton Milwaukee River Hotel . Homeowners should bring a recent statement or notice from their lender, and two current pay stubs. If you can't make it, but are worried about your situation, Colarulli urges you to contact your lender, or a local housing counselor. They can call 1-888-995-HOPE or contact their local HUD-certified housing agency at www.hud.gov .
