Marshfield voters okay a smoking ban, now will cops have time to enforce it? Residents of the Wood county overwhelmingly threw their support behind a smoking ban Tuesday, becoming the fourth city in the state (following Madison, Appleton and Eau Claire, where the bans were enacted by city council votes) to put a comprehensive indoor smoking ban into place. It will be up to the Marshfield P.D. to enforce the ban, but the police chief says smoking complaints won't be high on the priority list.
Chief Joe Stroik says it remains unclear if the property owner or smoker could be cited. What the council comes up with will determine if the ban is workable or an "enforcement nightmare." The council will likely discuss the issues at a meeting Tuesday, but could elect to table it until April 22.
