Sheboygan's Memorial Day parade is on again. It was canceled earlier this week because it didn't have enough participants. But Thursday, Mayor Juan Perez said he's forming a new community group to put on the parade – relieving veterans' groups who've done it in the past.
The mayor says veterans have provided an incredible amount of service, and the community owes it to them to organize the parade themselves. The Sheboygan chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America staged it last year. But on Monday, it said it was scrapping the parade because not enough groups agreed to take part. Mayor Perez says the new group will organize the 14 groups which are willing to be in the parade – and they've been making phone calls to get more involved.
