Small business support for a hospital tax

April 1, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A small business group is throwing its support behind a proposed new tax on hospitals.

Wisconsin Independent Businesses director Wayne Corey hopes lawmakers will include the tax in a budget repair bill. He says it's almost a "no brainer" to assess the state's hospitals to leverage money from the federal government. Those dollars would help increase Medicaid reimbursements.

Governor Doyle and Senate Democrats are advocating for the tax, but Assembly Republicans remain opposed. They argue it would add to already rising healthcare costs.
