Vigil remembers UW student

April 7, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Dozens attended a windy candlelight vigil at U-W Madison last night to remember Brittany Zimmermann. She was the medical student from Marshfield who was murdered, possibly at random, at her downtown Madison apartment last Wednesday.

Jean Weichelt, Zimmerman's aunt, tearfully said, "It's just so senseless to take such a beautiful girl and take her away for no reason."

More than 100 relatives, friends, classmates, and teachers turned out for comfort, then lit candles and threw flowers into the fountain on Library Mall

Her killer is still being sought. Police have extra patrols in the predominantly-student neighborhood where the slaying occurred.
