Budget vetoes likely to stand

May 19, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Don't look for state legislators to attempt an override of the latest vetoes from Governor Jim Doyle. Republicans don't like a Doyle veto which takes more than $100 million from the transportation fund, to help balance the state budget. But Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch says an override is unlikely. Huebsch says that's unfortunate, since the transportation fund ought to be used to maintain highways, not balance the budget. He says Republicans do like Doyle's use of the veto to cut more in state spending.
