Consumers urged to "buy green"

May 9, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A Wisconsin Congressman has a suggestion on how to spend your tax rebate check.

LaCrosse Democrat Ron Kind announced the "buy green to save green" initiative on a visit to Eau Claire on Friday. He's suggesting that those who can should put tax rebate money toward increasing energy efficiency in their homes.

Kind says he and his colleagues were skeptical about the economic stimulus package, because it involves borrowing money from China to put foreign oil in our cars. For it to work, Kind says people need to spend money on products that actually help boost the economy.

Kind suggests people consider buying items such as energy efficient appliances, compact fluorescent light bulbs, home insulation, and low-flow shower heads.

Kind also commented on the expected candidacy of 9/11 conspiracy theorist Kevin Barrett, who is expected to run against him this fall. Kind says anyone can run for his office, but he's less interested in talking about conspiracy theories than he is talking about the issues of the day. Barrett is expect to make his announcement during a Ron Kind town hall meeting in Sparta on Monday.
