Ten percent of Random Lake School District students stayed home Monday complaining of flu like symptoms. Sheboygan County Health Officer Dale Hippensteel says they immediately looked at the illness as possibly food related. The food service checked out alright as well as the food workers.
The district's elementary, middle and high school students are all housed in the same building. Students from grade school through high school were sick.
"Whatever it was it was pretty prolific and contagious and moved very quickly through the school," says Hippensteel.
Hippensteel says they've sent stool samples from some of the sick kids to the state lab and expect results later this week.
School District Superintendent Tom Malmstadt says Wednesday's attendance is back to normal and the students were only ill for one or two days.
