Speed plus booze equals fatal crash

May 28, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A 23-year-old Janesville man faces felony charges in a fatal traffic accident. Rock County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Richard Bennett of Janesville following a one vehicle accident on south Townhall Road in the town of Turtle. Sgt. Jude Maurer says the female victim was found outside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head trauma. "Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors," said Maurer, adding that it appears seat belts were not being used, since the victim was ejected due to the impact. "The driver of the vehicle was arrested at Beloit Memorial Hospital for OWI, along with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle," Maurer said. The incident was reported around 2:30 Wednesday morning.
