Do you have enough hot dogs and beer for this holiday weekend?
State Representative Terry Musser says he hopes you do, but also that you don't forget what the holiday is all about. Musser, who's not seeking reelection, has tried unsuccessfully for years to move Memorial Day back to May 30th, whether it falls on a Monday or a Thursday. He says having it as part of a three-day weekend to start summer diminishes the importance of honoring the nation's war dead.
Musser chairs the Assembly Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs. His bill to change the date of the holiday obviously never got anywhere, but Musser says at least he made a point.
