Vets' defrauder enters guilty plea

May 20, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A former public information officer at the state Veterans Home in King , accused of defrauding veterans organizations, faces up to ten years in prison, after entering a guilty plea to the charge.

At a hearing held in Outagamie County Circuit Court on Monday, 53 year-old Richard C. Calcut entered a guilty plea to felony theft by fraud, taking over $260,000 from veterans' organizations over an eight year period. The thefts were uncovered during audits of Calcutt's office last summer, and he resigned his position last fall. Court records indicate Calcut has paid $65,000 in restitution. Outagamie County Judge Mitchell Metropulos set a review hearing in the case for July 21, and sentencing on August 7. A pre-sentence report was also ordered.
