Beware storm chasing con men

June 11, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is warning that unethical businesses may be offering repairs to homes damaged from the storm and flooding. State BBB President Randall Hoth says scammers may ask for the entire fee up front in cash, but not deliver the service.

He says some contractors will mark up fees much as 500 percent during catastrophes. At the same time, beware of companies that work too cheap especially a low cost offer of dangerous tasks such as electrical work. Hoth says taking pictures of things that need repair is important, as well as communing with your insurer. Insurance companies may provide referrals to reputable businesses.

Hoth also suggests researching potential contractors through the BBB website .
