Brewers pick 10 players on day one of Amateur Player Draft

June 6, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers selected 10 players during the first day of the First-Year Player Draft, which was six more selections than any other team.  The draft got through six rounds on day one.

The Brewers used their first pick (16th overall) on catcher Brett Lawrie from Brookswood Secondary School in Langley, British Columbia.  This past spring, Lawrie played on Team Canada's Junior National Team and hit .486 (17 for 35) with 8 HR and 24 RBI while playing against MLB Dominican Summer League teams.

Lawrie became the highest drafted Canadian positional player in the history of the MLB June First-Year Player Draft and is just the sixth Canadian ever selected in the first round.

Among the teams choices, the Brewers used the 54th pick overall on center fielder Cutter Dykstra out of Westlake (CA) High School.  He is the son of former Major Leaguer Lenny Dykstra.
