Melvin OK with Sheets Comments

June 26, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Earlier this week Brewers ace Ben Sheets told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he will not look for a contract extension with the Brewers during the season and he will test the free agent waters.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin told WSSP Radio in Milwaukee earlier this week that he is OK with that.  Melvin says that when a player gets this close to being a free agent, most want to see what offers are out there.  He says that the team hasn't tried to extend Sheets during the season because it could be a distraction.

Melvin thinks the Brewers will have a window to get a new deal done with Sheets right after the season is over.

Sheets is in the final year of a $38.5 million dollar deal.
