Odorizzi Happy To Be Brewers

June 24, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The Brewers signed their 2nd selection in the June Draft late last week.  Pitcher Jake Odorizzi out of Highland Park (IL) High School came to terms on a contract.

Odorizzi was the 32nd overall selection in the draft earlier this month.  He was considered a mid-first round pick by many experts and was thought to be the best high school pitcher in the draft.  During his senior season he was 14-0 with a 0.08 ERA while leading his team to the state title.  He only gave up one earned run all season.

He says that he's very excited to be a member of the Brewers organization and will work hard to work his way through the minor league system.  He says the first first thing he did when he was drafted was to learn as much about the organization as possible and he is not bitter that he slipped in the draft.

If he had fallen out of the top 40 picks, Odorizzi most likley would have accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Louisville rather than start his pro career.
