State Boys golf championships start today

June 2, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The WIAA Boys State Golf Championships open today at University Ridge in Verona.

Arrowhead is back to defend its division 1 championship, rallying from 10 shots down on the back nine to win ts second Division 1 championship in the last decade last year.  Green Bay Notre Dame is in the field after winning the 2007 championship and Pacelli won the Division 3 title.

Arrowhead is a big favorite in Division 1, returning all five golfers from last year's title team.  Appleton East, Eau Claire Memorial and Madison Memorial are the top challengers.

The Division 2 field could be wide open.  Catholic Memorial, Appleton Xavier, University School, Madison Edgewood and defending champion Green Bay Notre Dame are all likely contenders.

Pacelli is not back to defend its division 3 title.  Cambridge, Columbus Catholic, Eleva-Strum, Osseo-Fairchild, Roncalli, Sevastopol, Shoreland Lutheran and the Prairie School make up the division 3 field.

The two-day event is scheduled to wrapup tomorrow.
