Bomb threat evacuates Pewaukee city hall

July 28, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A man claiming to have a bomb barricaded himself inside a rest room at Pewaukee City Hall Monday. The building in the Milwaukee suburb was evacuated, and officers took the man into custody after a brief standoff. Officials did not immediately confirm that the man had an explosive, according to Pewaukee police Captain Daniel Meister. The device was handled by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department bomb squad.

Meister told reporters on the scene that he did not know the man's identity, or whether a bicycle parked outside the building had anything to do with the standoff. "I don't know if there's a bicycle down there or not," said Meister. "It's not uncommon for people to ride bicycles to city hall."

"We always try to wait it out," added Meister. "We don't want to see anybody get hurt. We're going to continue to talk to this individual, and hopefully we'll resolve it safely."
