Fifteen years for young father in toddler's death

July 25, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Emotional testimony at the Dane County Courthouse Thursday. Twenty year-old David Roberts of Waunakee was given 15 years in prison, in the beating death of his 3 month old son. The boy's mother recalled her last moments with her infant: "I wonder if David remembers how how looked for the very last time? I do. That's all I imagine when I wake up." The young woman testified to the last memory she has, that of seeing the bruised and bloodied infant at the hospital.

Members of Roberts' family testified that he was stressed because of constant fights with the baby's mother and her family. Still, Roberts admitted to Waunakee police that he just "lost it," and beat the child. He entered into a plea deal, and was convicted of first degree reckless homicide. He originially had been charged with first degree murder.
