OSHA lays fines on Wisconsin plant

July 29, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A Janesville electronic recycling company faces more than 127 thousand dollars in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The violations at CRT processing LLC include exposure to carbon monoxide, lead and cadmium in its workplace, according to OSHA spokesman Brad Mitchell. The roughly 50 full time and 70 temporary employees at the facility will be able to work while the company corrects the problems.

"While these violations are certainly a threat to worker safety and health, they do not do not constitute an imminent danger."

Company officials say in a statement they've begun an internal probe into the allegations. Officials add they've spent tens of thousands of dollars on protective gear for their workers, and that an independent safety auditor found no problems.
