State's overtime blues

July 18, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Concerns at the Capitol, about overtime for state employees. Menomonee Falls Republican Sue Jeskewitz says there's too much of it, with some state employees putting in 90 hours a week. "How do you do your job, when you are working that many hours a week? Isn't that a safety issue? Isn't that a productivity issue?" Jeskewitz co-chairs the Legislature's Audit Committee, which received a report showing the state has paid nearly $190 million in overtime to workers since 2005. "It almost looks to me like kind of a game," says Jeskewitz, who says those overtime hours need to be curtailed.
