Appleton police arrested a man covered in barbecue sauce Wednesday morning, when they responded to a burglary call. Sergeant Pat DeWall said the homeowners woke up around 4:40 a.m. when they heard the man whistling in the basement. One of the homeowners grabbed a shotgun and turned off the basement light. DeWall said the man then called out to the homeowner, came up stairs, and surrendered.
Aaron Maurice was wearing his own pants, the female homeowner’s jacket, the male homeowner’s hat, and was covered in barbecue sauce. “He apparently told the homeowner that he was on the run from the government,” said DeWall. When arresting officers asked Maurice why he was covered in barbecue sauce, he told them it was an “urban disguise.” The 35-year-old man was arrested for burglary.
