Deadline for No Call approaching

August 28, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The upcoming holiday weekend might be on many minds, but don't forget about the No Call list.

The deadline is quickly approaching to sign up to the state's No Call List.

"People are anticipating the holiday weekend; they're not thinking about the No Call List." But Glen Loyd with Wisconsin Consumer Protection says "We want to remind everybody that the last week of August is the last day to sign up."

Loyd says this will be the first list containing cell phone numbers as well as land lines. By signing up, you'll be protected from telemarketers starting in October.

The sooner you sign up, the sooner you're protected. If you already signed up, make sure you're still covered from unwanted calls by signing up every two years.

"The deadline is August 31 st until midnight."

If you miss this deadline, Loyd says you can still sign up and make the next edition, which will take effect January of 2009. You can sign up any time, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and it's free. Call 1-866-9-NoCall, or visit NoCallWisconsin.gov .

Currently 1.1 million numbers are on Wisconsin's No Call List and consumers have already signed up over 118,000 cell phones.
