GOP: Palin pregancy a "personal matter"

September 2, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Preibus says news of the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin being pregnant is a "personal matter. " He adds the girl is taking responsibility and plans on getting married.

Preibus is hoping that the opposing party not politicize this and continue the tradition of a politicians children being "off limits."

The issue of personal matters relating to how one governs was at the heart of the Monica Lewinsky scandal involving President Clinton. Democrats contended personal flaws were not part and parcel with political abilities, a charge Republicans often disagree with at the time. WRN asked Preibus if there is appearance of a double standard. The GOP leader says there is a difference here. Clinton's behavior happened in the White House while he was should've been conducting official business, where as this a family member of a Vice Presidential candidate.

He doesn't believe the news will hurt the McCain – Palin ticket because people realize that mistakes happen and nobody is perfect.
