A new lawsuit has been filed in connection with the the murder of UW Madison student Brittany Zimmermann. Her family is suing the owner of the apartment building on West Doty Street in Madison where Zimmermann was killed on April 2. They say Zimmermann's fiancé had complained about security issues at their home prior to Zimmermann's death.
Police say someone broke into Zimmerman's home, assaulted her, then killed her. Her fiancé had told the landlord about the lack of secure doors and locks around the building, according to court records filed Thursday. The building is owned by Wisconsin Management Company Incorporated. The company and its insurer, General Casualty, are the only ones named in the lawsuit, according to court records. The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.
