Brewers should make Sveum their manager

October 7, 2008 By WRN Contributor

I saw more from Dale Sveum in the 12 games or so that he managed at the end of the season, then I saw from former Manager Ned Yost in his entire stay as manager.  That's one reason why I think the Milwaukee Brewers should go ahead and remove the “interim” tag from Sveum and make him the fulltime manager.

Ned Yost used to park it at the end of the dugout steps and enjoy his sunflower seeds, waiting for his team to hit the big home run.  It worked for awhile, but it also proved costly for Yost when the bats cooled off and the home runs stopped coming.

When Yost was released, Dale Sveum immediately started to actually manage a game.  He paid attention to every detail.  He asked his players to bunt and hit and run and the other things that go along with playing America's game.  I saw him revearse an onfield call during the playoffs, actually seeing the opposition lose a run because he knew a rule better than the umpires working the game.

Now throw in the fact that his players like him and most endorsed him.  And among those players showing their support for Sveum was CC Sabathia.  There's some that think the Brewers have a legitimate chance of getting Sabathia in free agency, then they might want to consider his endorsement of Sveum.

I'm sure there's plenty of good candidates out there, but the Brewers have one already in house in Sveum and the Brewers should sign him to a deal.
