Brewers announce coaching staff moves

November 4, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers announced some of their 2009 coaching staff today.  The Brewers have filled their hitting coach, bullpen coach, first base coach and third base coach.  The pitching coach and bench coach positions remain open.

Dale Sveum returns for his fourth season on the Brewers' coaching staff and his first season as hitting coach.  Sveum joined the Brewers as third-base coach in 2006 and then served as bench coach in 2007 before returning to his original position in 2008.  He also served as interim manager for the final 12 games of the 2008 regular season and went 7-5 as the Brewers qualified for the postseason.

Bill Castro agreed to terms to return for his 18th season as bullpen coach.  Castro is also a candidate for the pitching coach vacancy.

Ed Sedar returns for his third season as first base coach.  Sedar, who also serves as the outfield instructor, led a group that committed only eight errors in 2008, tying for the second fewest in the Major Leagues.

Brad Fischer joins the organization as third base coach.  Fischer spent last season in the Pittsburgh organization as minor league catching coordinator, and also served as manager at State College in the New York-Penn League.  He spent the previous 29 years in the Oakland organization, including 12 seasons at the Major League level as a first base coach and bullpen coach.
