Shopping for toys online can save money, but some of those deals may be dangerous.
Many online retailers offer deep discounts on discontinued or gently used toys. However, Consumer Protection's Michelle Reinen says parents need to do some research before they buy. She says people should consult the Consumer Product Safety Commission's online list of recalled toys first.
Reinen says online listings don't always make it clear if a toy contains choking hazards, such as small parts or pieces that can easily break off. If you decide to go ahead and buy the toy, Reinen suggests checking it out before you wrap it up.
Reinen says consumers also shouldn't be afraid to ask a seller for more information about a product.
