Nevermind: UW-W students recant assault claims

November 3, 2008 By WRN Contributor

UW-Whitewater police say two students who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by strangers on campus have since recanted their stories.

University chief of police Matthew Kiederlen says the first student, who claimed to have been assaulted September 4th, has completely recanted, and that no assault actually took place. The second student, who reported a an assault to police on September 24th, was not assaulted by a stranger on campus, but by an acquaintance at an underage alcohol party off-campus. Kiederlen says police will not press charges for filing false reports.

Kiederlen says during the investigationm, police recieved clarification from the alleged victims, and determined circumstances differed from what they were originally told.
