With no opposition, State Senator Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) was again picked to serve as Minority Leader for the next session.
The Juneau Republican admits a different dynamic exists in the Legislature, now that Democrats control both chambers. He says it's not clear what will be offered, but Republicans will hold close to the principles of the party.
Fitzgerald says Republicans will be more than just the loyal opposition and will work with the Governor and the majority Democrats.
Senate Republicans were able to prevent Democrats from gaining ground in the Senate, maintaining an 18-15 split. Fitzgerald says that shows many voters supported the public policy decisions made in the Senate last session.
Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) will serve as Assistant Minority Leader. Senate Democrats are expected to pick their leadership team in the coming days.
