Getting ready for GM’s last day

December 22, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Workers at the General Motors plant in Janesville are preparing for their last day on the job. The plant will finish production of Sport Utility Vehicles on Tuesday.

Plant spokeswoman Mary Fanning-Penny says employees are signing a banner commemorating the end of production. The plan is to take a photo with workers holding the banner as the last vehicle rolls off the assembly line. She says the banner will likely accompany that last Tahoe to the United Way, which will auction off the vehicle for charity.

Fanning-Penny says the last day will be what's considered a "UAW and GM" family only moment. She says it's a tremendous and resilient workforce that will walk out of the building Tuesday with pride and dignity.

WCLO's Beth Wheelock contributed to this report.
