School breakfast programs grow

December 5, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin has moved up a notch in a school nutrition program.

The state used to rank last in the nation in participation in the federal school breakfast program. However, Wisconsin spent $3 million to lose, what Governor Jim Doyle calls, a very dubious distinction.

The Governor says the state's investment has allowed Wisconsin to capture and additional $12 million in federal funding to help support school breakfast programs.

Doyle says the programs are important because kids learn better when they're not hungry.
