Badger women back to .500, Marquette falls

January 19, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Alyssa Karel led three Badgers in double figures to lead the Wisconsin Badger women to a 61-43 win at the Kohl Center on Sunday.   Karel scored 15 points, Teah Grant had 11 and Mariah Dunham added 10 for Wisconsin, which held the Illini to 29% shooting from the field in the first half and built a lead that the Badgers wouldn't give up.

With the win, the Badgers moved back to .500 in the Big Ten (4-4, 14-5 overall) and find themselves a half-game behind sixth-place Iowa and 1 1/2 games behind Minnesota and Michigan State, which are tied for 4th place.

In Piscataway, New Jersey, Epiphanny Prince scored 23 points to help 23rd ranked Rutgers knock off Marquette 76-53 in Big East play on Sunday.  The Scarlet Knights held Marquette without a field goal for nearly 7 minutes in the 2nd half and used a 16-0 run to pull away from a 40-36 advantage with about 14 1/2 minutes left to play.

Krystal Ellis scored 14 points in the loss for the Golden Eagles (11-7, 2-2).
