Brewers sign Hoffman as teams new closer

January 8, 2009 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms with free-agent closer Trevor Hoffman, but won't officially announce the deal until Hoffman takes a physical.  That means the deal might not become official until next week.

The deal is reported as a 1-year deal worth $6-million, with up to $1.5-million in incentives.  The Brewers also reportedly hold an option for the 2010 season.

Hoffman was weighing offers from the Brewers and Dodgers and decided on Milwaukee.  He had 30 saves for the Padres last season and stands at 554 for his career.
