Matthews leads Marquette to 3-0 Big East start

January 8, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Wesley Matthews had the hot hand on Wednesday night, going 10 for 10 from the field and scoring 23 points to lead the 18th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles to a 81-76 road victory over Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey.

The Golden Eagles improved to 14-2 overall, and their 3-0 start in the Big East is their first since joining the conference in 2005.

Jerel McNeal added 16 points and Dominic James had 15 for Marquette, which returns home to host West Virginia Saturday at the Bradley Center.
