Within a week, tragedy strikes twice at a monster truck rally, this time in Madison. On Saturday night, the show promoter and announcer, 41-year-old George Eisenhart Jr. of Chardon, Ohio, was killed when he walked in front of a monster truck at the Alliant Energy Center.
Dane County Coroner John Stanley says it was an accident. He cites drivers have a "blind spot" because of how high the truck sits and where Eisenhart was standing.
Town of Madison Fire Chief Dave Bloom says emergency personnel responded rapidly to the accident. He adds three medics and an ambulance were on site for the show.
Timm Murrary was one of the few thousand spectators who saw it all happen. He captured it on video.
"I don't thing anything can really prepare you for it," says Murray.
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney says it falls on parents and caregivers to ensure their kids who witnessed the incident get proper treatment if they've been traumatized.
The rest of Saturday's show, and the show for Sunday night were promptly cancelled.
Last week in Tacoma, Washington, a six-year-old boy was killed by flying debris from a monster truck.
