Packers select Capers as defensive coordinator

January 19, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Dom Capers The Green Bay Packers have their new defensive coordinator.  Dom Capers has reportedly reached an agreement to replace the fired Bob Sanders in Green Bay.

Capers (pictured) visited with Mike McCarthy on Friday and Saturday and then agreed to the deal Sunday night.

Capers is known mostly for his work with a 3-4 defensive scheme, but has some experience with the 4-3 as well.  He's expected to employ a hybrid 4-3 / 3-4 defensive scheme in Green Bay.  The Packers moved quickly on Capers, who had been rumored to be a candidate to replace New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnola, who took the Rams head coaching job.
