Authorities are warning against jumping to any conclusions as to the causes of a five-person fatal vehicle accident outside of Marinette.
Marinette County District Attorney Allen Brey says it will take time to determine the exact cause of Sunday's tragic vehicle accident on US 41 in Marinette County. He says there's not enough information at this time to make any judgments about who was at fault or should take responsibility for the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck that smashed into a car, killing its five occupants, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. But Brey also says there is not yet reason to believe that the pickup's driver, 39-year-old Richard Allen Powell of Marinette, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Brey says it's premature to presume Powell was intoxicated because blood test results are not yet back.
Powell was released from custody under the direction of the district attorney. The fatal accident remains under investigation.
